We tried the youth 15 minute youth session and LOVED it! The kids had full reign of the car and us parents were in the passenger seat to help out if needed. My teenagers got the hang of it in no time at all but my 8 year old needed quite a bit of help because he’s on the smaller side. Everyone had a great time and since we were the first group of the day with no one else there, they gave us some extra time! We would love to try the sunset tour next time!

Get Up Close with Sharks
Have a budding marine biologist in the family? Then you won’t want to miss the Shark Dissection at the University of Texas RGV Coastal Studies Lab! This hands-on experience lets kids (and adults) get up close with sharks in a fascinating and educational way. You’ll leave with a new respect for these ocean predators – and the kids will be talking about it for weeks!
We were a small group of 4 and they were able to schedule us with no problem! Laura Grayson (Program Manager) and Jennifer Brouwen (Research Associate) were excellent with our kids and taught them so much about why these creatures are an important part of the South Padre Island ecosystem.

The Art Business Incubator and The Art Lounge on South Padre Island offer family-friendly art classes that are perfect for kids and adults alike. Whether it’s pottery, painting, or crafting, this hands-on experience lets everyone explore their artistic talents while making fun, memorable souvenirs to take home. They offer weekly classes and private lessons as well.
We have tried the group classes and private lessons and loved both! Our kids were happy to get creative and messy!

Splash Around at the Island’s Waterpark
What’s better than a trip to the beach? How about a beach water park right next door! Beach Waterpark offers family-friendly water slides, lazy rivers, and splash zones for all ages. Whether your little ones are just learning to swim or your teenagers are looking for thrills, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
This park is open seasonally so double check opening dates before you book. They are usually closed during the fall and winter and open up again in April.
